DAZ'S BIO

d.jpg

Daz Ripka, founder and chief songwriter, musician and producer of 1Ripka Music has worked as a session guitar player and producer for a number of years, having collaborated with artists like Erin Frances, Brent Hampton, and his wife, Nikkie Ripka.

Originally hailing from Port McNeill BC, a small community on northern Vancouver Island, Daz was influenced by a variety of music in the 80’s like Duran Duran, Prince, and Motley Crue to name a few. In high school Daz started playing guitar with good friend, Josh Terry, learning old Metallica and Guns n Roses songs. Once the grunge movement hit in the mid 90’s Daz expanded his playing into the styles of Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Nirvana, and also got into hip hop artists like 2pac, a Tribe Called Quest, and the Wu Tang Clan.

After moving to Vancouver in 2002, Daz’s infulences shifted to acoustic rock guitar music covering bands like Staind and 3 Days Grace. In 2007 he met Kara Fraser ( AKA Mia Moth ). They forged a unique acoustic blend of grunge music and hip hop in a band called the Abstract Poetics, writing some raw, emotional tracks like What I’m About, and Let Me Talk To You.

In 2010 the Abstract Poetics disbanded and Daz started working with the incredibly powerful voice of Erin Frances, generating hits like Hardcore, Daybreak, & Danny, and performing on amazing stages like Wapite Music Festival in Fernie. In 2013 Daz and his wife decided to start a family and focus on recording original music, playing multiple instruments, and getting heavily into the production side of the business.

Daz and the 1Ripka music family continue to collaborate with a variety of artists and are always interested in removing boundaries and exploring new styles.
